Superyacht Destinations for Culture

The art of travelling on Superyachts can give us a rare insight into different cultures and this is one of the most exciting and exotic aspects of sailing across the globe. Whether its stamping your feet to the local Caribbean rhythms in the heart of the Tobago, wandering the gilded galleries of Venice’s prestigious art scene, or tasting the melting pot of culture that seeps into the cooking of magical Marseille, these are the reasons we are tempted to leave our comfort zone and discover the world.

Trinidad and Tobago

Joyous festivals, lively music, and a splash of color at every turn make Trinidad and Tobago two of the most incredible cultural places in the world for superyacht charters. Whilst you can enjoy the usual yacht treats like blue kissed waters, exotic snorkeling and sipping cocktails aboard My Starfire, you also get to glimpse a world brimming with history. The plantations tour is a must for anyone interested in the islands past; with some stretches of sugar lands dating back as far as the 10th century.

In the Port of Spain particularly under the bright moon if night you can visit the pan yards and listen to the steel band sounds igniting the eve with an unmistakable flair. The National Museum and Art Gallery is another must for admiring the colorful creations and artefacts of carnival and seeing incredible paintings. Fun is always on the cards in Tobago and you will feel the jolt of an electric atmosphere if you happen to catch one of the local crab racing competitions on the rum soaked sands.

Marseille

Marseille is the home of poets, artists, migrants, musicians and museums. This French gem is a veritable melting pot of cultures making it a fascinating place for your superyacht to stop by. Whilst many yachts stick to the glitzy gold streets of the French Riviera, Marseille boasts so much character and charm, that despite its tumultuous reputation, you really can find yourself swept away with inspiration in the pretty port town.

Ask Captain Sputh to show you the mesmerizing sight of the Château d’If, a place marred by literary history since the publication of The Count of Monte Cristo; literary lovers can also walk in the footsteps of famous French poet Arthur Rimbaud. With a ton of museums you can brush up your cultural spirit by visiting the Museum Of Mediterranean Archaeology, Museum of Old Marseille, and the Museum of Fine Art. Back on My Starfire and who wouldn’t want to end the day with vintage champagne in the Jacuzzi watching the sunset.

Curacao

When you fuse Dutch color with Caribbean magic you get Curacao. The ABC islands are a favorite among superyacht charters and for good reason. Days spent snorkeling in the balmy blue waters, sipping the signature electric blue liquor on the shore and wandering the pastel shades of Willemstad are blazing in their bounteous delights. Back on My Starfire you can dine on signature seafood dishes with a kick of Caribbean flair, watch dolphins from the deck, and hop around the picture perfect beaches waiting for you to run upon the sands.

The peppered past of Curacao may be borderline but is always best understood and a visit to The Kura Hulanda Museum will give a rare insight into the slave root past. Travel forward back into time and soak up the delights of present day Curacao with a visit to the liquor factory, the glazed fruit filled floating markets, the oddly obscure fish doctor and the sweeping AloeVera Plantation.

Venice

You don’t get any grander on the culture scales than Venice; everyone’s favorite Italian gem is a history lover’s delight, an architectural masterpiece, and an art lover’s idea of paradise. In the Piazza San Marco you can see some of Venice’s most stately architecture especially the grandiose wonder of the BasilicaSan Marco.

Art lovers can head to the Gallerie dell’Accademia and the Scuola Grande di San Rocco to see some of history’s greatest painters coloring the walls with their truly inspired frescoes. When you feel like seeing a quiet side of Venice without the gondolas, the Vivaldi, the anti-pasti and the hordes of tourists then head to the lovely lagoon around the island of Burano where bright canal side streets are full of lace and hand woven stories.
